Blake Lotaburger was launched due to the efforts of Blake Chanslor, who served during the Second World War. He went to Albuquerque, New Mexico following the war, and the first outlet was launched in 1952. He invested only $5,300 for the project and it was located in San Mateo in southeast Albuquerque. Two more outlets were launched in 1953.
Chanslor expanded the restaurant chain to 23 cities in New Mexico, with 7 stores in the Four Corners Area and 35 stores in Albuquerque. Chanslor owned the restaurant chain until 2003 and then sold the company to the father-son team of Ronald C. and Brian Rule. Until 2018, Lotaburger owned 75 branches in different locations.
Blake’s Lotaburger has been supporting the Special Olympics for a long time in New Mexico. The 2018 season marks a 22-year history with the Special Olympics.
