When we say, that Cattlemen’s Steakhouse is the oldest restaurant in Oklahoma City, we also mean that it has a huge history of itself too.

Before diving into the secret items, must-try items from Cattlemen’s Steakhouse, having a look at the history is a must. When Cattlemen’s Steakhouse opened in 1910 as Cattlemen’s Cafe, the diner served cowboys and farmers in the Stockyards City area.

This was a major center for processing meat for export to the East Coast of the United States. When Prohibition was in effect, H.V. “Homer” Paul bought the business in 1926 and secretly served homemade “liquid delights”. In 1929, Henry Hank took over and his family played many important roles.

On a terrible Christmas Eve in 1945 at the Biltmore Hotel, Gene Wade defeated Hank Frey in a game of craps and took over the kitchen. The Wades fixed up the business and made it open 24 hours a day.

Later, the hours were changed back to normal. It changed its name from Cattleman’s Drive-In to Cattlemen’s Steakhouse in 1957, from the early to mid-1950s. The Wade family sold the restaurant to Dick Stubbs in 1990.
