History of Fosters Freeze
In the year 1946, Fosters Freeze was founded in Inglewood by George Foster. As of today, it has a total of sixty-three outlets, interestingly, all of those are in California.
The story of this chain is quite fascinating- it is said that George Foster shifted to California post the 2nd world War to start the Diary Queen outlets because he held the development rights in that location.
But the state laws safeguarding the dairy industry did not allow using the word “dairy” in any of the restaurant names. So, in 1946, George started a restaurant named after himself. He had named it “Foster’s Old Fashion Freeze”.
The apostrophe was later removed from the official name. Then in the year 1951, he sold more than three hundred locations for 1 million dollars. Later in 1987, there were less than 200 locations.
Fast forward to 1994, El Pollo Loco signed a contract for a “master franchise” with Fosters to enable the Fosters Freeze soft serves to be sold at most of their locations.
Eight years later, a hundred and sixty-three of their outlets sold Fosters products which led to a boom in their sales by 3-6%.
